Langley for Families Foundation presented a $2,600 check to Smart Beginnings for the 5th Annual Directors’ Academy. The event will be held at Christopher Newport University on July 29th and 30th and is the premier opportunity for area child care leaders to come together and learn strategies for operating a successful business through a variety of interactive seminars.

“We are pleased to support the 5th Annual Directors’ Academy,” stated Langley for Families Foundation Chairperson Marilyn Kuhn. “This year over 30 child care centers will participate in the academy, impacting hundreds of children across the community.”

The first day is centered around best practices in business while the second focuses on strategies for providing a quality educational experience for children so they are ready for Kindergarten. Key speakers will include Janice A. Nieliwocki, Child Care Specialist with Ronald V. McGuckin & Associates who will discuss what and how to avoid mistakes that lead to lawsuits. Dr. Kelly Cartwright from CNU will also be joining the Academy to help participants understand the role of the executive function.
