Langley Federal Credit Union Donated $1,085,000 to 106 Community Organizations in 2019
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – (January 2020) – Langley Federal Credit Union announces its 2019 combined giving efforts of the credit union and the Langley for Families Foundation is $1,085,000. These funds were invested back into the Hampton Roads community to 106 organizations that provide services ranging from healthcare, housing and human services, safety and security, and financial education.
In 2019, Langley for Families Foundation celebrated a 41% increase in dollars donated – $662,500, and Langley Federal Credit Union donated $422,500. Funds were generated from generous employees, members and successful fundraising events, including the annual golf tournament and new cash raffle.

Highlights from the Foundation’s 2019 community impact include:
The first-ever $1,000,000 commitment, in partnership with Langley Federal Credit Union, to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters for their new children’s mental health hospital, which broke ground in 2019 and plans to open in 2022. This donation will occur over a five-year period.
The Langley For Families Foundation hosted five collection drives:
- 1,100 bars of soap for Union Mission
- More than 500 books for REACH Literacy Program
- 1,077 supplies for students and teachers
- 900 lbs. of food for local Foodbanks
- Teddy bears and backpacks for children in foster care
$ 95,000 in Scholarships
- $60,000 to Local Colleges and Universities: Hampton University, Christopher Newport University, Old Dominion University, Thomas Nelson Community College
- $20,000 Jean M. Yokum Scholarship to graduating high school seniors
- $15,000 Teacher Mini-Grant Awards
Langley employees volunteered by manning the phone bank at CHKD’s Annual Radiothon.
