Langley Employees and Members Collect 900 Pounds of Food for Local Families
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – (December 17, 2019) – From Nov. 18 to Dec. 7, Langley Federal Credit Union employees and members across the region collected 900 pounds of dried goods and baby products for local foodbanks, an estimated 750 meals.
Hunger unfortunately lives in Hampton Roads. In fact, one in seven people in Virginia will utilize Foodbank’s services. Even worse, one in six children live in food insecure households, which is why Langley employees and members worked together to support the region’s Foodbanks.
All items were donated to Virginia Peninsula Foodbank and Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia & Eastern Shore. More than 15 members from the Langley operations team also volunteered at the Virginia Peninsula Foodbank on Dec. 3 to stuff backpacks as part of the Backpacks for Kids program that provides healthy meals during the weekends when kids are out of school.
Additionally, Langley sponsored the 2019 Mayflower Marathon, which was a record-breaking year providing 700,000 meals for families in the Hampton Roads region.
