Langley for Families Foundation Donates Over $300,000 in Third Giving Cycle of 2024
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – (December 20, 2024) – The Langley for Families Foundation (LFF) announced the recipients of its third giving cycle of 2024 – a total of $300,750 donated to 40 nonprofit organizations serving those in need across the communities served by Langley Federal Credit Union.
All grant awards focus on the Foundation’s three core program areas – access to education, healthcare, and housing & human services, with seventeen nonprofit organizations receiving a grant in the amount of $10,000 or more. This includes a $25,000 grant to United Way of the Virginia Peninsula in support of their recently expanded Community Assistance Network (CAN), which provides resource navigation services to households experiencing poverty related crises. The expanded hours give working households the ability to access support outside of traditional business hours, and includes a focus on post-eviction support.
Other notable grant recipients, receiving $15,000 each this giving cycle, included:
- Children’s Assistive Technology Service (CATS), a Norfolk-based nonprofit that provides for the re-use of rehabilitation equipment for children with disabilities
- FreeKind, who works to prevent human trafficking in our communities and support survivors on their journey to freedom, hope, and belonging.
- Gloucester Mathews Care Clinic, who provides medical and behavioral health care, dental care, and medications, for households with incomes at or below 300% of the federal poverty level.
“The Langley for Families Foundation appreciates the incredible support of Langley’s members, employees, and business partners, whose generosity has enabled us to support our communities’ most impactful nonprofit partners who are working diligently to ensure critical resources and services are available for our neighbors in need.” said Jerome Fowlkes, Langley’s Chief Impact Officer and Vice Chairman of the Langley for Families Foundation. “Langley understands the essential role the nonprofit sector has when it comes to improving the lives of those who need us most, and we are proud to be able to support their important work through the Langley for Families Foundation,”
The Langley for Families Foundation will host a total of three giving cycles in 2025, with the deadline for applications for the first giving cycle of the year due on March 21, 2025.
