Langley for Families Foundation Donates over $373,000 in Second Giving Cycle of 2024
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – (August 28, 2024) – The Langley for Families Foundation (LFF) announced the recipients of its second giving cycle of 2024 – a total of $373,050 donated to 48 nonprofit organizations serving those in need across the communities served by Langley Federal Credit Union.
All grant awards focus on the Foundation’s three core program areas – access to education, healthcare, and housing & human services. The Foundation’s mission is to make a difference in the lives of families in all of the communities Langley serves, with an emphasis on providing basic needs to households struggling to make ends meet.
Thanks to the generosity of Langley members, employees, and business partners, LFF was able to award twenty one grants in the amount of $10,000 or more to nonprofit organizations whose programs ensure that those experiencing poverty related crises or a financial hardship receive access to critical resources and services.
Nearly $70,000 was distributed to nonprofit organizations providing emergency shelter and housing services. This includes a $15,000 grant to Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads and a $15,000 grant supporting YWCA South Hampton Roads’ Almost Home program which provides rapid re-housing services for survivors of violence. In addition, Seton Youth Shelters, The Genieve Shelter, and Survivor Ventures received $10,000 each for their emergency shelter programs.
Nonprofits providing access to healthcare services were also heavily supported by the Langley for Families Foundation this giving cycle with nearly $90,000 given to 17 organizations providing health and hygiene supplies and services to medically underserved populations. This includes a $10,000 grant given to the volunteer-lead Greater Hampton Roads Diaper Bank who partners with fifty Hampton Roads organizations to distribute about 60,000 diapers per month to families in need. Edmarc, who provides at-home treatment to children experiencing life threatening illnesses, was also awarded $10,000 to support their upper peninsula expansion efforts.
“Langley understands that to be a thriving community, we must ensure basic needs including healthcare, access to affordable housing, and financial stability are available to all who call the communities we serve home,” said Jerome Fowlkes, Langley’s Chief Human Resources Officer and Vice Chairman of the Langley for Families Foundation. “The Langley for Families Foundation is uniquely positioned to support our communities’ most impactful nonprofit organizations and we appreciate all that our nonprofit partners do to improve the lives of individuals and families in need.”
The Langley for Families Foundation will host a total of three giving cycles in 2024, with the deadline for applications for the third and final cycle of the year due on November 15, 2024.
