Langley for Families Foundation Donations Exceed $1.1 Million in 2023
Celebrating over $1.1 million in Grants for 2023
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – (February 15, 2024) – The Langley for Families Foundation surpassed the $1.1 million dollar mark this year with a total of $1,137,340 distributed to nonprofits over the course of 2023 celebrating a 10% increase in giving compared to 2022. Combined with the philanthropic efforts of Langley Federal Credit Union, donations exceeded $1.7 million.
The donations assisted over 170 regional nonprofit organizations in addition to Langley’s continued support of CHKD’s mental health hospital in Norfolk which opened for services in 2022. The funded organizations focused on four program areas: access to education, healthcare, housing and human services, and safety and security.
Since its start in 2014, the Foundation has donated over $5.76 million to nonprofit organizations serving individuals and families struggling to make ends meet. These funds were generated from generous employees, members and successful fundraising events such as the annual golf tournament and cash raffle.
“We are proud to have been able to support so many deserving causes and agencies who are working diligently to address our communities’ greatest needs through Langley and the Langley for Families Foundation,” said President & CEO Tom Ryan. “We appreciate our members, employees, and business partners who contributed in 2023 to help advance our mission of improving the lives of families in need in the communities we serve.”
In 2023, Langley celebrated the openings of two new branches outside of the Hampton Roads community in Raleigh, North Carolina and in Richmond, Virginia. To demonstrate their commitment to making a positive difference both financially and socially in these new markets, Langley respectively announced donations to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina and the Central Virginia Foodbank. For every new member who joined the credit union at each branch in their first month of openings, Langley pledged to make a $100 donation, with a cap of $3,000. Both Foodbanks received a $3,000 donation, a testament to Langley’s commitment to growth and community service.
Langley Federal Credit Union also made a profound economic impact in the region beyond charitable giving. With more than $4.6 billion in member deposits, $4.6 billion in member loans and more than 374,000 members, Langley plays an important everyday role in the communities they serve.
