The Tidewater Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen received a grant to implement its 2021 Drone Camp for 40 7-9th graders. Participants will experience guest presentations from professionals in the industry, classroom instruction on safe flying practices, and hands-on drills to practice flight operations.
Founded in 1982, the mission of Tidewater Chapter of Tuskegee Airmen is to preserve the legacy of the Tuskegee Airmen of World War II; to acknowledge the contributions and achievements of the men and women of the Tuskegee Aviation Experience; to promote historical, scientific, and social research; and, to motivate youth to pursue technical careers, particularly those related to aviation by providing scholarships to graduating seniors.
“The goal of the program is to elicit curiosity and excitement for the drone industry, increase awareness of the benefits of post-secondary education in STEM fields, and to enhance critical thinking and team building – all while continuing the legacy of our Tuskegee Airmen,” said Colonel Clifton Douglas, director of youth activities for the chapter.
