In 2019, Langley for Families Foundation celebrated a substantial increase in dollars donated - $662,563 to 81 organizations. Nonprofit grantees provide valuable community services throughout Hampton Roads – from Williamsburg and Gloucester to Suffolk and Virginia Beach.

Funds were generated from generous employees and members and successful fundraising events, including the annual golf tournament and new cash raffle. The Foundation raised approximately 250% more than last year thanks to the supportive Hampton Roads community.

The Foundation focused on four program areas: Healthcare, Housing & Human Services, Safety & Security, and Financial Education. Housing & Human Services was the most supported program area, with 65% of grant funds.

Highlights from the Foundation’s 2019 community impact include:

  • The first-ever $1,000,000 commitment, in partnership with Langley Federal Credit Union, to Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters for their new children’s mental health hospital, which broke ground in 2019 and plans to open in 2022. This donation will occur over a five-year time period.
  • With Langley, the Foundation hosted five collection drives:
  1. 1,100 bars of soap for Union Mission
  2. Over 500 books for REACH Literacy Program
  3. 1,077 supplies for students and teachers
  4. 900 lbs of food for local Foodbanks
  5. Teddy bears and backpacks for children in foster care
  • The Langley for Families Payroll Deduction Program raised $46,000. With a dollar-for-dollar match from Langley Federal Credit Union, $92,000 was donated to 31 employee-nominated nonprofit organizations.

“Community engagement helps Langley understand what we can do to help service our members and the community,” said Kim Rath, Langley Financial Insurance Agency Team Leader. “I am proud to work for a company that not only allows us the opportunity to give back, but also encourages us to help our community.”

Langley for Families also made a strong impact in shelter and housing in Hampton Roads, donating a total of $221,063 to 13 shelters and the construction or renovation of 6 affordable homes.

“We applaud Langley’s dedication to make a difference in the lives of families in all of our communities,” said Janet Green, CEO for Habitat for Humanity Peninsula & Greater Williamsburg. “It is inspiring to see employees and members give their time and talents to help families have safe, affordable housing.”
